Monday Thoughts 6.12.23

Posted on June 12, 2023 by Karen

“Always do your best.”

Don Miguel Ruiz

“Just because you’re taking longer than others doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Keep going.”

Unknown

“A shoutout to everyone who is trying right now…Trying to do the right thing. Trying to stay open. Trying to keep going. Trying to hold on. Trying to let go. Trying to find their flow. Trying to stay afloat. Trying to meet each new day. Trying to find their balance. Trying to love themselves. Trying new things and new ways. I see you. I’m there too. We’re in this together.”

S.C. Lourie

#12 I am a competent woman and have much to give life.

This is what I am and I shall know it always.

It is quite fitting that this week our focus is on Statement #12. Another amazing WFS Conference has concluded but the enthusiasm, joy, and support continue! It takes so many competent women to put together our annual conference and this year was no exception. A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who shared their time, talents, and service to this wonderful event!

The theme this year was “EnJoy the Journey” as a loving tribute to our own Nancy Cross. Nancy always signed off with the word “EnJoy.” Nancy is the reason WFS has a robust online community; it was her vision to bring WFS online in the 90s when the internet was just taking off. Nancy was the epitome of a competent woman; she was a living embodiment of Statement #12 in action. In fact, her screen name was fourcwoman…she certainly was.

Alcohol or drugs remove our ability to embrace our joys, and especially our strengths. This Statement changes this. It is a favorite mantra for many women, often being repeated when feelings of doubt grow loud. Little by little we learn to embrace our inner strengths and abilities through connections like this past weekend, in weekly meetings, or through the WFS Online Forum. Thank you, Nancy, you are loved and missed deeply.

Hugzzz

Karen

Dear 4C Women,

Nancy Cross was a gift and treasure to WFS. She gave so much of herself to supporting and promoting this most wonderful, empowering program. I enjoyed writing with her and just like Karen, Nancy had great insight. She was inspiring and a wonderful encourager for women moving forward, to keep trying. She also realized how important technology would become. I remember when The Forum was first introduced. We had classes on using it at our in-person conferences. There was so much to learn. When I think of how advanced technology is today, I have to say this Statement #12 rings so true for Nancy, the woman learning how it all worked and today with such amazing access to the WFS online community. Back in the beginning, the idea of having a virtual conference wasn’t even a consideration.  What an incredible and extraordinary capability to provide access to women all over the world.

I came across a couple of Monday Thoughts that Nancy wrote. One stood out when she mentioned courage and how this applies to Statement #12. This is a combination of her thoughts and mine:

It takes courage to start a New Life

It takes courage to fall and get back up

It takes courage to speak positive words when you define who you are at this moment

It takes courage to acknowledge what you have to give life and know it always

It takes courage to find your voice and speak its truth

Courage is what you show on your journey when you face challenges and conflict with the strength that comes from love.

For those who were able to attend the virtual conference this weekend, I hope you learned and felt the strength of knowing you are a competent woman and have much to give life. For those who were unable to attend, I hope that in practicing Statement #12, you have found the courage in knowing you are a competent woman as you walk this recovery journey.

As Nancy would end her Monday Thoughts, I honor her by saying “EnJoy” – Dee
