Monday Thoughts 9.23.24

โ€œYou can either spend your time stepping toward the life you want or standing still in a life you donโ€™t.  Itโ€™s your choice.โ€ โ€“Annette White

โ€œDo not be afraid to outgrow people.  Do not be afraid to outgrow places, outdated paradigms, and seasons of life.  But most importantly do not be afraid to outgrow outdated versions of yourself.โ€  -Emma Lumรฉ

โ€œProtecting ourselves from painโ€”our own and that of othersโ€”has never worked.ย  Everybody wants to be free from their suffering, but the majority of us go about it in ways that only make things worse.โ€ย  -Pema Chรถdrรถn

#1 I have a life-threatening problem that once had me.

I now take charge of my life and my well-being. I accept the responsibility.

Karen’s Thoughts

Starting out in a sober New Life, I heard about putting distance from people, places or things that could influence or risk recovery.  Initially, this felt unnecessary, even unrelatable.  Yet learning about cravings, triggers and the science behind addiction, awareness and understanding grew.  Action into Statement #1 took on a whole new meaning.

Our founder, Jean Kirkpatrick, PhD wrote in our WFS Program booklet โ€œ My experience shows that I used alcohol to fill emotional needs.  I used alcohol to avoid problems.  I used alcohol to produce a personality that I liked better than the one I had without alcohol.  I used alcohol to run away from myself, the person I considered to be worthless and unlovableโ€ฆ.me.  My running away helped me to deny my problem.  Denial became my biggest problem.โ€ Reading these words, it felt like Jean had been reading my mind.

Jean knew. Jean understood.

Women reaching new heights, accomplishing goals and standing in their strength is a byproduct of their commitment and action to this empowering and life-affirming program.  Statement #1 in action unites recovery and responsibility bringing unlimited advantages.

How do you manage triggers today?

How do you manage your most difficult emotions?

What are the most effective and/or empowering changes you have made in your New Life?

Hugzzz

Karen
