Monday Thoughts 10.07.24

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to live like everybody else.  In fact, youโ€™ll probably be happier if you donโ€™t.โ€
-Joshua Becker

โ€œSometimes happiness is about less, not more.  Less stuff.  Less striving.  Less waiting for tomorrow when thereโ€™s a lot to appreciate and enjoy today.โ€
-Lori Deschene

โ€œRealize that youโ€”and only youโ€”are responsible for your own happiness.  Do the things you love and that you find meaningful, partner or not.  Yes, having a wonderful relationship can be one of lifeโ€™s greatest joys and blessings.  But no one else is capable of, nor should be responsible, for making you happy.  That is your job.โ€ -Eric Teplitz

#3 Happiness is a habit I am developing.

Happiness is created, not waited for.

Karen’s Thoughts

In early sobriety, one of the things that felt uncertain was the ability to experience happiness again.  For years I had connected feelings of happiness with alcohol; I had deserved it, I had earned it!  Yet happiness seemed elusive.  Why couldnโ€™t I just be happy? Sobriety and Statement #3 in action establishes not just happiness, but contentment.

Endless social media posts capturing (edited) picture perfect, exciting experiences can foster feelings of insecurity and doubt through comparison.  Snapshots of life in motion are simply that, a replica or reproduction.  The original is etched into our memories and woven into our being.  Statement #3 has enabled me to understand and appreciate this fact, creating and savoring happiness on a new and different level.

This week, consider what brings you joy.  What lights up your insides?  If you are having difficulty pinpointing something, think back to childhood. Were you content inside the house reading or did you head outside exploring?  Were you more content in solitude or in a group?  Taking note of these little things can help direct a path today.  What small action can you take this week towards increasing happiness in your life?  Right now, I am feeling happy knowing that our WFS Monday Thoughts co-author Dee will be back next week after taking time to heal after her ortho surgery!
