“What you get from achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
Zig Ziglar
“Intentional living is literally a matter of pausing at any point before acting and asking yourself ‘Does this support the type of person I want to become and the type of life I feel called to live?’ Consider what’s most important, and decide to build your life around that.”
Brittney Moses
“The willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life is the source from which self-respect springs.”
Joan Didion
#13 I am responsible for myself and for my actions.
I am in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my life.
Statement #13 wraps up the WFS New Life Program with a focus on maintaining sobriety and recovery while responding with our growing abilities. Action into Statement #13 also aids in relapse prevention and encourages the expansion of independence.
Before finding WFS, responsibility felt like a frightening concept. I held childhood understandings of what it meant to “be responsible” and felt like a failure. My adult experiences intensified those fears and alcohol seemed like an easy remedy, but it wasn’t. I was only distancing myself from responsibility while increasing and focusing on blame.
Sobriety opens the door to self-acceptance and recovery leads directly onto the road of responsibility. Statement #13 in action keeps both prioritized while we rock on in our New Life. Feelings of deep meaning begin to appear, much like rereading a beloved book and finding hidden gems; it was all there before, and our new level of awareness and appreciation simply highlights it brightly. This week, take a look at how you have viewed responsibility past and present. What has changed? What have you changed? What does that change feel like?
Hugzzz and safe travels to our WFS Conference this week!
Karen
Dear 4C Women,
This Statement changed my whole life! At first, it was scary to think I was in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my actions. Me – responsible for making life-changing decisions all on my own and sober. I was so used to doing what others told me that I didn’t trust my intuition. As I practiced this Statement, I realized it was very empowering to be in charge of my life. I am so grateful to Jean and WFS for helping me to realize what was within me all of this time that I failed to recognize. I learned to love making decisions, to learn from my mistakes, and to keep moving forward with less fear than I experienced in the beginning. It’s been a long time since I began this journey and so much has happened. Gratefully, this Statement has been the encourager, support, and resilience I needed to have and believe in. I hope you will feel the empowerment and the personal growth that this Statement gives as you practice it each day.
Bonded in being responsible for our lives and knowing we are 4C women in charge, Dee
