โ€œForget all the reasons it wonโ€™t work and believe the one reason that it will.โ€

#5 I am what I think.

I am a capable, competent, caring, compassionate woman.

I didnโ€™t believe it. For a long time, I did not believe that it was possible to get through the day without alcohol.  The pattern of chaos, fear, and alcohol had run deep; it was a way to cope that failed every time.  Yet after another day of sheer panic, I opened the door to changing that life-threatening belief system by embracing sobriety and the WFS Statements.

Statement #5 quickly became a mantra.  Whenever I felt unease, I repeated the whole Statement either silently, or aloud.  I wrote it in journals and doodled it.  It became a familiar, comfy blanket of assurance.  These words helped reinforce who I am while I struggled to fully believe and embrace it.

Weaving Statement #5 into daily life consists of fostering balance in thought and action while learning to love and accept myself.  This altered the self-destructive pattern into one that nurtured value and self-worth.   Today my thoughts are vastly different than before sobriety and recovery.  I am a capable, competent, caring, and compassionate woman!

Dear 4C Women,

It was so challenging to think positive thoughts about myself when I first became sober.  I had to keep telling myself that any major change is a process of personal growth and acceptance of where I was on this journey.   Sometimes we forget the positive qualities we possess and for me, these questions below are a wonderful way to see how we have grown and where we need to focus to keep the process going in a forward direction.

 Questions:

This makes me unique:

I feel strong/empowered when:

I accept myself for:

A quality I am proud of:

Today I am grateful for:

I did my best to overcome:

The most significant positive change I have made:
